Montreal 2010 Closing Remarks

친애하는 친구 및 동료 여러분,
안녕하십니까?

대구시와 대한민국은 2013년 세계에너지총회를 위한 준비를 마치고, 여러분들의 참여를 학수고대할 것입니다.
저는 아시아 태평양 지역 부회장으로써, 세계 에너지 커뮤니티에 얼마나 많은 변화가 있었는지를 목격했습니다.

그 동안, 우리는 경제 성장과 에너지 빈곤 그리고 에너지 안보와 기후변화와 같은 문제를 해결하기 위해 지속 가능한 솔루션을 찾아왔고 많은 것을 이루었습니다. 하지만 여전히 가야 할 길이 멀다는 것을 알고 있습니다.

지금 저는 WEC 커뮤니티의 멤버로써, 이러한 이슈들의 어떠한 솔루션도 세계 에너지 커뮤니티의 모든 이해관계자들, 즉 에너지 수출국과 수입국 그리고 선진국과 개도국의 지속가능한 파트너십 없이는 해결될 수 없다고 믿습니다.

저는 우리가 지속적인 파트너쉽과 혁신적 협업(Innovative Collaboration)을 통해 성장 할 수 있기를 바랍니다.
(그렇기 때문에) 이러한 파트너십을 창조해 내는 것이 차기 총회의 주요 목표 중의 하나가 되어얄 할 것입니다.

끝으로 몬트리올 세계에너지 총회에서 수고해 주신 모든 분들과 저희들을 환대해 주신 시민 여러분들께 개인적으로 감사 말씀 드리고 싶습니다

이제 저는 WEC 2013 조직위원회 팀원과 함께 차기 총회의 개최를 기대하면서, 3년 후 저의 고향 대한민국 대구에서 여러분들을 뵙기를 희망합니다.

Friends and colleagues: good afternoon.

That was quite impressive.

The city of Daegu, the nation of Korea, and the entire region will be ready and eagerly awaiting your arrival at WEC 2013.

As WEC’s vice chair for Asia-Pacific and South Asia, I have seen how much the world energy community has changed.

We have been searching for sustainable solutions for economic growth and energy poverty as well as energy security and climate mitigation.

We have achieved a lot, but still we know we have a long way to go.  

Now, I’ve come to believe as a member of the WEC community any solutions for these issues cannot be sustained without the sustainable partnerships of all stakeholders within the world energy community. i.e. net exporters and net importers of energy as well as industrialized and emerging economies.

To create these partnerships is one of the main goals of the next Congress.
I am hopeful that we can grow together with enduring partnerships and with inovative collaboration.

s I close, I would like to personally thank everyone at the Montreal 2010 Organizing Committee for the excellent work they’ve done and express my appreciation to the citizens of Montreal for the warm welcome they have given us. Certainly, you have set the bar very high and we will have to work hard to rise to that challenge.

Now I look forward to---along with the able team at the WEC 2013 Organizing Committee—leading happily the charge for Daegu 2013.  In a little more than three years time, I anticipate warmly welcoming you all to my hometown, Daegu, Korea.
